This Monochrome artwork demonstrates the incredible work of the Labyrinth spider. Found in abundence in wheat fields or areas of rough, un-cut grasses, particularly in the south of the UK, they gather and bind the stems together using their web silk, forming complicated networks of very strong tunnels and chambers, useful for trapping insects. It has been said that historically, in other parts of Europe, these webs were collected and layered together to form a delicate canvas to paint religious minature artworks onto. Not only are these intricate web formations natural artworks in their own right, but at some point in history they aided others in the depiction of their own works of art.
