AONB
AONB stands for Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are 46 AONB's in the UK, and the Dedham Vale and Stour Valley area is one of the smallest. Designated as such for their conservation, it is no surprise that this particular one incorporates much of what is often referred to as 'Constable Country' - named as such for its prolific rendering onto many canvases of the famed landscape artist, John Constable - these were the landscapes of his childhood. But he is not alone. Other globally significant artists of this area include Thomas Gainsborough and Alfred Munnings. These images are my own interpretation of this place, through their preservation and conservation they act as a mediator, enabling us to link back to the past, to the paintings, by resembling now what they were like back then - they are a pathway between.
